Evaluation of the Wear Resistance and Corrosion Behavior of Laser Cladding Al/SiC Metal Matrix Composite Coatings on ZE41 Magnesium Alloy

Aluminum matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles (SiCp) were deposited on ZE41 magnesium substrates by laser cladding in order to improve their tribological performance. Silicon and titanium added the avoid Al-SiC reactivity. The addition of these elements Al4C3 formation during fabrication was successfully explored previous research, but effect wear behavior corrosion resistance coatings has not been studied. During process, there is dilution substrate that forms an Al-Mg matrix, which influence behavior. Electrochemical polarization impedance measurements a 3.5% NaCl solution dry sliding conditions pin-on-disc tribometer used evaluate different compositions Al/SiCp alloy uncoated ZE41. All composite had lower rates than substrate. However, showed worse substrate, although Si or Ti improves resistance.
